school help?

I'm a junior in high school, and I'm not taking any APs or honors classes.  I know that junior year is the year that is most looked at when it comes to applying to colleges. I asked to be put in some, but my advisor said it was too late to switch in and not to worry about it cause most colleges don't require them anymore.  My school is getting rid of AP classes next year, so taking some senior year is not an option.  As of now my top college is NYU, do you think I will have a problem getting into NYU/ other similar colleges because of this? Thanks :)

NYU is a hard school to get into! A lot of people with AP class backgrounds will be applying there, and it will look a lot better for them. They are at a larger advantage than you are because they are showing that they can handle AP classes. However, it only looks good if they take the AP classes and they do well. If they do bad, then a person who takes regular glasses with high grades will have the advantage.
With that being said, colleges give students who take AP an extra percentage of their grade. For example, the AP taking person gets a 90 in their class. The college will give them, for example, 10% of that grade, so they get a 99. This is because the AP classes are hard, and they get those extra points because colleges view that they deserve it. Because of this, AP students might have a higher GPA as well.
But it's not all they judge! Make sure to do well in all your classes and be active in your school. Do clubs and a sport or two if you can. Try to be an officer of a club, and do community service, too! Don't worry too much, and always have backup colleges. Good luck!

NYU is a very competitive school. I would express to your counselor that you really want to take an AP. Like I would make a serious stink about it and get myself in. (I did that lol.) Keep focused on your current classes, don't stress, just get straight As.

I agree, you should make a stink about it. I mean, if you can't get recommended for an honors class because you don't have the grades, that's one thing. But if your counselor refuses to put you in them, that's another. You have every right to demand to take the classes you want. Maybe you can appeal to your teachers?
It's also worth noting that if your school is getting rid of APs, that won't hurt you. So the fact that you won't take any APs your senior year will make absolutely no difference to any college, from state school to the Ivies. So don't worry about that
