Breast feeding?

Question

Okay so I'm willing to give it ago when I'm in hospital once I've had my baby. But if I can't do it then I want to use formula. I feel like so many mums get judged by this decision though? I've read up about breast feeding and formula and the way some people have worded things it makes you feel like a crap mum for using formula. Yes I understand 'breast is best' but what if you can't cope with breast feeding? What if you can't cope with pumping breast milk? I'm quite big boobed (42E) so I'm worried that I'll be in agony if I try breast feeding, I'll still give it ago though. Are there any first time mummy's out there that use formula? Or who plan on using formula? What is you view on breast feeding and formula? All answers welcome!😌

I say  as long as baby is health and fed it doesn't matter. I'm on baby number 4 and breastfed all my first 3 .I plan on doing so with this baby, but  not putting  that much pressure on myself .being a parent full stop is hard without all the other added pressure. I say enjoy your baby and your life how you want to. its far to short to worry about what people think.  well done for being willing to try. hope all goes well

I don't know if the size of your breasts has to do with pain. I got up to 36DD when my milk came in (was 34B before pregnancy) and it was still painful. They have ointment for your nipples to try to keep them from getting cracked but it didn't work for me. I wanted to breast feed so bad when I had my son and within a few days I became blocked in both breasts and got an infection in one of them. It got to the point where I wanted to scream every time I nursed and then my son just stopped wanting to nurse because I was so blocked. I could only breast feed for 6 days and I was crushed. I truly believe it takes a strong woman to breast feed. It's hard and it's definitely not for everyone. Yes breast is best because of the antibodies you can provide for your child but formula will still provide all of the nutrients your child needs. My doctor told me the most impotent thing was that my baby breast fed for the first couple days and got the colostrum which I guess has a lot of what newborns need in it. I think it's wonderful that you're at least willing to try it. Good luck with whatever you choose! I hope everything goes well for you!!

I tried breastfeeding my daughter I lasted Maybe 3 weeks it was to the point where I was crying by how much pain I was in she never got full and would need to eat every 30 minutes we're both so much happier after I switched to formula that being said I was young a single mother so I received WIC me and my husband are currently trying for number 2 and financially I'm in a much better place but with the price of formula I'm probably going to end up sticking to breastfeeding through the discomfort

I'm not going to lie, breastfeeding is hard and emotional. It can take weeks to master but when you do figure out what works best for you and baby, it's a great feeling.

I'm a ftm and I breast feed and formula feed. Breast feeding isn't easy at all you get sore and it hurts but it goes away. I don't make a lot of breast milk to satisfy my son so he nurses and if he's okay I don't bottle feed buy if he wants more he's gets formula. At first I felt bad but after talking to my nurse I felt better and not so bad. All that matters is baby is fed and growing who cares what method you decide.

I struggled to breast feed my son as he had really bad tounge tie, he couldn't even drink from a bottle for a while and I had to use a syringe. I expressed for a couple of weeks but moved onto formula as I felt trapped in the house (took an hour to feed then 40 mins to an hour to express and he needed fed every 3 hours) I was exhausted and miserable. I really beat myself up over using formula I felt so guilty and that I had failed, but looking back it was the right thing to do. I was at breaking point and my health was just as important as my sons. He is happy and healthy and using bottles meant his daddy could help out more.
As long as you and you're baby are happy then it really doesn't matter. Just enjoy you're cuddles with you're little one whilst they are small weather that be with a bottle or breast!! x
