Birth control for period pain?

Caitlin

Hey everyone. I'm 17 years old. A little background info:

My periods have always been regular, but I have terrible cramps. So much so that I started doing online school because I couldn't stand to go to public highschool while in my period, which lasts a whole week. The pain is that bad. I also experience ovulation pain and bleeding.

I'm finally considering trying out birth control pills to help with my painful periods and painful ovulation. I've held off for a long time because I'm very careful about what I put in my body. My doctor has even prescribed me prescription strength Alieve (not sure how to spell it) and it didn't seem to help. So this is a last resort. I have an appointment on Wednesday the 7th to talk to my doctor about going on birth control. Has anyone else here successfully used birth control to help make their periods less painful? I really just can't stand it anymore otherwise I wouldn't even consider going on more medication. So I'd like to know if this has actually helped anyone out.
