spotting and itchiness

Hey! So I have a question. I started using the nexplanon implant about two or three weeks ago and I've been having spotting for almost a week. But that past couple of days I've been having itchiness and it burns when I pee but I think that might just be from the irritation. Today I noticed that instead of the normal red spotting it was a thick brownish color. I was just wondering if that was normal or if that had happened to anyone else. I'm away at college and my gyno is about an hour away so if I can get away with not going to the doctor that would be great haha. Thanks
