You can give him the full name of John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt if you want. Whatever you write down on that birth certificate is what their name is... Only thing is the hospital can submit the name to the local family courts to have them rule against the name if they find it offensive or of potential cause for hardships for the child. So like, don't name him Adolf Hitler, or Spider-Man Funktown Wooblenoof, or anything like that...

Your child can have the last name Roosevelt if you so chose. lol. Nobody can tell you how to name your child. It's just a culture thing to carry on last names.

In my state they can only have the dads last name if he signs the birth certificate. If not it automatically reverts to whatever your last name is.

Me and my baby daddy , fiancé now are not married but our baby took his last name as soon as he was out.. We're having our second in November and he will take his last name as well. I say unless the dad has no part in raising or wanting baby, then I would give baby dads last name.. If he didn't then I would just use yours.

When my baby girl is born she will be having my boyfriend's last. I don't believe it's a big deal not to unless he wants nothing to do with the baby than I would suggest not to.

My husband and I (married obviously) have different last names and our son has a different last name than us... It's a LONG story and we are changing our last names to the same as our son's (&soon-to-be daughter's😁) last name... but yes your child can have the last name you choose.
