Pierced nipples? Breastfeeding?

Hello Mommy's,

I have a few questions for any mom's that may or still have their nipples pierced. Did you have issues with breastfeeding? Everything I've read states that you really won't know if there was damage done to your nipples until you start feeding/lactating. I do know the rings will have to be removed to allow the baby to latch on properly, which isn't a problem. Did you find it easier just to keep them out? Did they heal up even after years of having them pierced?

My 18 year old self wasn't thinking this at the time. I'd really prefer to breastfeed my child and the unknown is killing me. Any response is very much welcomed.
