Period when you're on the pill????

Ok, I need some info. I'm thinking of starting the pill because my periods are weird and irregular and I feel like crap the week before and I hear the pill is supposed to help. But I really want to know- how heavy is your period when you're on the pill - like enough to soak a pad every six hours? More/less? How long does your pill period last? Thank you so much! Xx
