Can you have a baby shower for your second child or is that not a thing? Ive been told no.

Do whatever you want.  If family and friends want to get together, they will.  Perhaps, if you want, just say gifts are optional.

There was 5 years between my first and second, so my sister threw me a "sprinkle" so I could get the things I didn't have anymore.  "Welcome baby" isn't a bad idea either, except how many people do you really want handling the new born? People will expect to hold them at a "welcome baby" party.

I'm having one, and my first is only 19 months old. My first baby shower only had coworkers so it'd be nice to have my other friends there this time. I am going to state that gifts are not needed as we still have everything. I'm gonna make it a gender reveal as well.

A baby shower is to celebrate a new life... Even with your first you shouldn't expect everyone to bring a gift... My SIL had a baby shower with all 6 of her kids and everytime she made it clear gifts are optional.

Where I'm from there are apparently unwritten rules when people think it's accepted..
1. If it's been more than 5 years since your last baby 
2. It's your first baby
3. You are having the opposite sex as the first born baby..

Now sure who come up with this.. I'm on my third child and thinking if just going a diaper party. No other gifts. It helps a lot plus it's been 5 years since my last born So I fit into the rules.. lol its stupid.

I didn't think I needed one for my third but my friends thought otherwise. I had a nice little get together and got some much needed items for baby. If anything I was going to just have a diaper sprinkle that way people could. Rig diapers or wipes. I didn't want to be a burden on anyone since I already have a bit and a girl and I was a hoarder of their stuff.

I say if there is a big age gap its fine, but if its under like 3-4 years than no. Im having my rainbow after 6 years and my mother in law said she was throwing me one.

You could, but usually there should be more than 5 years between the children or expecting twins (an extenuating circumstance) to accept gifts again. If there are no extenuating circumstances, I'd suggest asking guests to just bring diapers or make gifts optional. Celebrating is perfectly fine!!

I don't think it's appropriate. If you want to celebrate new life as a previous poster stated, have a meet the baby party after baby is born, where there are no gifts expected
