Why I dislike GoFundMe

Cobain🎸

Below I am posting a screenshot of yet another abuse of GoFundMe. This same girl had her mom create a GoFundMe 6 mos ago because her mom could not afford to save money to travel for her grandson's birth. They linked the account to FB every day for the last 5 wks leading up to her due date. She had essentially 9 mos to save, didn't do so, and then hounded everyone on FB for $3,000 during the final countdown. This amount was meant to cover gas (drive from Cen Cal to Texas), food and lost wages from 2 weeks of not working.

Now her daughter is asking for money to go on vacation.

I'm all for GoFundMe when it's concerning unexpected medical bills or disasters. A family's house had burned down and they lost everything. These are times communities come together. But I have a problem justifying handing over hard earned money when it is a situation that you were responsible for the planning and budgeting of. In other words, it is not your community's job to bail you out when you fail to prioritize. Just like children asking for donations for field trips. I suggest a bake sale or car wash, anything where you can create a service and *earn* the money. GFM could be used to do kind things, but people clearly abuse it and I think it should not be tolerated.
