How long is too long?

I have two rings from my boyfriend both of which I always wear. We have been dating almost five years. I got one ring on my 17th birthday,  and one about a half year later with a letter saying this was a promise one day he would make it official,  however it has been there years and he hasn't given me anything to hint that he's going to ask soon. Any suggestions?? Should I just ask him? My moms boyfriend and her started dating a year after me and my boyfriend and they are married already!  They got married last year.

My now husband and I have been together 10 years. He proposed to me at 16 years old. We took a break for a month shortly after our 6 year anniversary  and got back together. On our 8 year annual he proposed, then we got married around our 9 year anniversary and just celebrated 10. It's hard to wait but you gotta be patient 😆

I think a long engagement is fine 18-22 but after that 5 years is a little long

Don't compare relationships, your mom is also older then you. I've been with my fiancé for 7 1/2 years now and he proposed to me at 6 1/2 years. No wedding planning yet as we planned to have a baby and we did. I made a decision to stay home with her to watch her grow up. I would much rather spend time with my baby then spend thousands on a wedding. I do want to get married but that is on hold until I get back to work.

How old are you guys now? 5 years is really long for people in their late 20s or older IMO, but if you guys are still 18-20 or so, you're still soooo young that I'd recommend relaxing :)
