What is your opinion about waking a sleeping newborn to eat?

I have a week old and he's been fighting me when I wake him up to eat. He was born 3 weeks early, so he is a little peanut, and of course I'm worried about him losing more weight. But I'm also concerned about both of our sanity. I know how to wake him up, so that's not the help I want, I just want to know your opinion about waking or not waking

I've been told that once baby surpasses their birth weight then let them sleep

I was told by his dr and my cousin who is a nurse never let them go passed 4 hrs it's not just about hunger is about dehydration. It wasn't until my sons was 2-3 months that his dr said I can let him sleep past the 4 hrs and that was only at night. And my son was way over his birth weight within the first week. It's all about hydration!

I wake my 3 week old during the day but never at night. Every 3 hours during the day and he sleeps 7 hours straight at night

Once they are back to their birth weight they can sleep. My daughter slept 6-7 hours at 2 weeks and she's now 3 months and sleeps 10-12 hours

I'm exclusively breastfeeding my 5 week old twins that were born at 35.3 weeks and my pediatrician said that I didn't have to wake them to feed. She even said they could go 4-5 hours at night without nursing as long as they don't start losing weight. I was really concerned at first but after letting them sleep at night I felt better bc I was getting more sleep. My 6.15 baby is now over 8lbs and my 6.6 baby is 7.15

When baby is back to birth weight and gaining healthy, let baby sleep. We did every 3 hours clock work with ours till he was 2 weeks old. After that we fed him when he woke at night and still every three hours during the day. There was 1 time he didn't wake up before 3 hours. I made the mistake of waking him and it was heartbreaking. Every other time it was clockwork every 3 Hours.

When my daughter was born we woke her up to eat till about 2 weeks when she was back up to her. Birth weight. After that I went to about 3-4 hours for another week then only when she woke up. It all depends on how well your baby is gaining weight.

I had a 6 wk early preemie. My dr instructed to wake her every 3-4hrs. We did this until she was a month old.
