how do you breastfeed?

I feel embarrassed for asking this but how do you breastfeed? Do you put baby on one side and then switch to the other side or do you nurse on one side and then nurse on the other one the next feed? How long does baby eat?  I'm confused but I really want to breastfeed 😔

When baby is first born it's a good idea to have baby nurse both side for how ever long they want. So for example baby starts on right side for ten min, let's go the. You put baby on left and he only eats for 5 min. Next feeding you will start with the left and finish with the right. Then once baby is older they get better and more efficient at eating. So they may be satisfied with just nursing on one side. Or maybe they are more hungry and want both sides.

Actually, you can do any of the things you just said. The best thing to do would be to go to a la Leche league meeting before baby is born - then you can watch moms nurse their babies and ask questions. But mostly you just put baby near your nipple as often as possible and baby eats what baby wants.
