Should you feel guilty about calling in sick for a bad period?

Answer

I've done it. If I feel so horrible that I won't be able to focus on work, why not call in sick? That's what sick days are for. I don't do it every month, but when I'm feeling particularly awful I don't hesitate to take a day off.

Nope. I've even left in the middle of a shift it would get so bad.
