Is 3 middle names too many?

Only one would be legal but long names is kind of a cultural thing and we picked a beautiful & meaningful first name and 3 fantastic middle names, 1 is the name of a deceased friend and 1 is baby's gramms' name, the third is just pretty and pulls them together nicely.
But is 5 names too many names?

Only one would be legal? Does this mean only one would go on the birth certificate/social security card and the other two are just, let's say "meaningless accessories" ? (I don't mean meaningless as in meaningless to you, but honestly meaningless towards anything legal - just more of a family thing) If so, do it! But I don't think I'd put all three on the birth certificate.

We used 2, after a lot of research I chose to do it. Some people claim there's problems with visas and social cards but others who actually had 2 middle names had no problem. They give you two lines on your social so it's fine. Three would be too much, so it'd shorten it.

Nah, my friend's son has three middle names, they flow together nicely and it works just fine. You do what you want. A few extra names won't hurt anyone.

Technically my brother has 1 first name, 4 middle names, and our last name. These were all on his birth certificate.

Legally, he uses his first, one middle, and our last name.

It's not a cultural things for us. My dad couldn't pick a name and my brothers mom was still under anesthesia when he filled out the birth certificate.

I say do what you want. If you are going to make it legal, just think about all of the forms in her lifetime you and she will have to fill out.

It's entirely up to you! Presently I have two legal middle names and chose for that after my marriage name change. I'd urge you to think on if you'd want to use those names as first or middles in the event you have another child of the same sex one day.

My daughter and I have 2 middle names. Which is hard enough just the legal aspect that it causes a headache. Legal papers tend to drop one off or both and shorten. ( they are not long)

I work in travel and all I can think of the headache this would cause traveling internationally. The names wouldn't fit on an airline ticket and some immigration officers will turn people back without the correct name as per passport.
