when do you start pumping?

When can you start pumping? Right away or wait a few weeks? I've heard all kinds of different advice. When do you start pumping?

They recommend waiting 3-4 weeks. 1) make sure baby is "expert" at Breastfeeding first (bottle is way easier so don't want to introduce too soon) and 2) pump too soon and you can mess up your supply.

I had to pump for medical reasons and ran out of milk by 2 months, try holding off until you and baby are established.

I started pumping when she was 3 days old, the day we came home from the hospital. I'm a second time mom, ebf for both of my own as well as 1 niece and 1 nephew so 4babies, going on 4yrs and bc of that I kind of threw a lot of the "do's & don't's" out the window. The only serious DONT I stand by is DONT introduce a bottle before 4-6wks. But pumping doesn't hurt so long as you're pumping after you feed the baby so they're overworking for the milk or getting discouraged while they're learning to nurse. You actually WANT to pump during the first 6wks to elevate your hormones and help map your production bc the groundwork you lay in those first 6wks determines how flexible your supply is beyond that.
