Ok, question???

Question

So when we are pregnant, usually the first or second appointment they do alot of test on blood work (they took 8 tubes of blood out of me), urine test , and other test..... so are they checking here for any disease, hiv, aids, or other health problems?? I mean what are they checking for here in the mothers health??

If ever you don't know what they're doing, always ask. You just went in and said ok without knowing what they were drawing for and left? Lol.

They generally check iron levels, for some sti's, hep b & c, sometimes they'll check thyroid levels, immunities to chicken pox etc. 
Well, that what my doc tested for anyway. Each doc is different.

Some stds, iron levels, usually your hormone levels to make sure they are in the right place, any other diseases that you might have or can pass to baby. 
Urine to test for uti, protines, and anything else that shouldn't be there. They can give you a whole list of what they tested for if you want. My doctor office has an app that I downloaded and can access my files which includes any tests they did

They also could be testing to see if baby will have any defects. I had to sign a paper allowing my Dr to test me for these things tho (my dad had spinal bifida) so I got tested just to be sure.

Initial blood draws is checking for existing health issues that may effect you or the baby.

You should need to do a First Trimester Screening blood test and ultrasound later checking for genetic defects such as Down Syndrome and Spinal Bifida (sp??).
