maternity leave

So I started in March with my current employer and will not be eligible for fmla because I haven't been employed there for a full 12 months. I was wondering if anyone is or has gone through this and found any ways to get more then the 6 weeks they give for vaginal delivery. I can't imagine going back after 6 weeks but don't want to quit either. It's a large hospital and we're union. Thanks for any suggestions!
