Last period doesn't tell you when you actually ovulated and therefore conceived, so why use that if you have better data points?

My scan said November 3rd my LMP is November 8th, and my doctor goes by November 8th, so I'm pretty sure you always go by LMP unless it's off by more than a week.

My doctor used my dating scan, the earlier the scan the more accurate the date is. Lmp is just an estimation based on the theory that all women's cycles should be 28 days and pregnancies should be 40 weeks. In reality if you have shorter cycles you are more likely to have a shorter pregnancy, longer cycles longer pregnancy.

I go by the dating scan because not everyone ovulates on day 14. Plus if the dating scan shows more than a weeks difference than the LMP date, most doctors will then officially change your due date. At 8 weeks my baby was measuring a week and a few days ahead. And because I was just over a week farther than my LMP they officially moved my due date up. So my dating is is what my doctor and I go by

Definitely the dating scan. Until you hit 20 weeks pregnant, all healthy babies grow at the same rate, so the dating scans are pretty accurate(down to a few days usually).

My due date was either 25 mar (scan) or 30 mar (LMP). Baby came the 26 th. I'd always go with the later one. I'm pretty sure she came on the early end and the LMP date was more correct.

Dating scan at 8 weeks matched up perfectly with ovulation for me. Based on LMP my due date would be 11/24. Based on when I ovulated (used OPKs and charted BBT), I estimated my due date to be 11/28. After my dating scan, that was the due date my doctor gave me.

The dating scan, especially one before 11-ish weeks. Embryonic developement at that stage does not vary by more than a day; all healthy pregnancies have nearly identical measurements in the early first trimester. Later on the measurements can become more unpredictable and have a greater margin of error.

It's probably best to go by what your OB or midwife says for practical purposes 🙂
