Here's how self-defense works: use whatever force necessary to get yourself out of danger, within reason. But excessive force is not protected by law nor is it reasonable.
Here's an example: A 180 lb person is being hit by a 100 lb person who is a foot shorter. The attacker has very little force behind their hits, yet they still attack this person. Now if the victim pins, pushes, or hits their attacker enough to break loose and get away, that's self-defense. If they hit their attacker repeatedly, they are now assaulting their attacker and they are both in the wrong.
I understand fight or flight takes over, but people also freeze in these situations so we can't assume we know how someone will react when they are attacked. But to a certain degree you understand what you're doing. Once you're out of danger, you have no reason to continue to engage with this person. Get yourself to safety, don't seek out to harm someone.
Someone's gender shouldn't determine whether or not they're allowed to defend themselves. Men are abused by women, mentally, physically, and emotionally, every day the same way women are abused by men, the same way men are abused by men, and the same way women are abused by women. We cannot tell men they cannot protect themselves just because they are bigger or stronger on average. But we can teach everyone, regardless of gender, what reasonable force is so that no one stoops to the same low level as their attacker. You should know how the difference between self-defense and assault.

This is kind of a trick question so I didn't answer the poll. No one should have the "right" to hit anyone.
In domestic abuse, it's all about "who is the dominant aggressor?"
If a woman strikes first, but the man just completely wails on her (i.e. Broken bones, dislocated anything, open cuts, bruises, etc.) He's going to be the one going to jail that night, because to law enforcement "she started it is not a real explanation."
Vice versa. If a man hits a woman (without causing damage), and she starts wailing on him. She's going to jail.
In some serious cases, they both are taken in.
So no one should have the right to hit anyone regardless of sex.

I don't think any one has the "right" to hit anyone. It's wrong on both sides to physically hurt someone. But yes, if you're being attacked by a crazy person then knock them the fuck out. You do have the right to protect yourself and if that entitles punching a cunt in the face because she's hitting you then do it.

I used to believe if a woman is big enough to hit a man then she is big enough to take one back until one day my mother said "if Danny (my boyfriend) was to hit me, he would do some serious damage, if I was to hit him then it would maybe leave a mark that's about it". Since then I've changed to believe that he has his rights to his body to stop you hitting him such as holding your wrists, hands, arms etc. To stop you:)
