Something to think about with the current shootings
Personally I view all of these unarmed killings as truly sad and disgraceful. I think that all the killing should be a sign for police departments to review some policies. No, I'm not saying that I hate the police or wish them harm. I am saying that the police departments, like other companies/ organizations do need revamping every now and then. Also people need to find out all information for themselves before judging, the media corrupts. To get my point across I'm going to tell a story the same way it would be told in the media.
A police officer gets called to a house because a concerned neighbor smells a lot of weed, sees kids go into a backyard and see a suspicious car parked out front. One of the people living in the home was incarcerated because of a drug charge and was released a few months prior. The police come arrest the guy and find a small amount of marijuana in his closet in some old pants. While they are cuffing him, he starts screaming and the police pepper spray him. While he is being pepper sprayed the guy starts squirming. The police decide to shoot him because they see the guy as dangerous.
On that information is it a good enough reason to shoot and kill him?
he was a former felon with charges
he "resisted arrest"
The officer "felt" threatened
There was a car that the neighbor didn't recognize
Now to fill in some blanks:
-The "suspicious" car- it was his sister's brand new car that she bought the day before
- Small amount of marijuana was in his pants pocket because the same way people forget money in old pants pockets, he forgot about the drugs in there.
- The reason he was screaming was because he was calling his mom, who had his drug tests proving that he has been clean.
- The squirming that the officers perceived as threatening;it was just a person writhing in pain
- Now the last bit of information. the marijuana smell and kids I mentioned earlier;they were coming from the concerned neighbor's (who happened to live next door) house. The 14 year old daughter decided to experiment with marijuana with a little company.
Now what is your opinion? Does the guy still deserve to die?
My point is that the media corrupts and will feed you only what they want you to know.
The police are human. Like most people that commit crimes or screw up, they may lie and try cover their ass(es). In police shooting cases, I truly believe that police should get the same treatment as anyone else. Try them as you would a person of the street, don't let a badge sway your thoughts.
By the way most of the story was true:
the "convict" was my brother, the car was mine, no he wasn't pepper sprayed, no he didn't die, and yes the part about the neighbor's daughter was true.
My brother did some time for possession and is terrified of police and the girl wasn't punished until months later. Her parents caught her in the act, grounded her and forced her to apologize to our family.
I wanted to post anonymously to take race out of the equation. This problem should not be a race thing... it's about right and wrong.
