How much will your second parent adoption cost?

Some people have told me they didn't have to do it, because their name is on B/C And some have been told even if name is on B/C it doesn't matter, adoption is still needed. Well our base doctors have told us yes it's needed, but our legal department on base isn't much helpful, (I'll be going in sometimes in next couple weeks to grind them.) we have just found out we are prego, so I (non active civilian will give birth) my wife is active duty will adopt. We used C.C.B for sperm purchase. W/ IVF SERIOUSLY HATE THAT WE HAVE TO DO THIS BUT WHATEVER LAWS! P.S. I know a lot of straight couples use sperm donors but I'm pretty sure they don't need to do adoptions! So... Like it still sucks there is a difference... Anyway! Any assistance guys

We were advised that even though we'll both be on the certificate, a certificate doesn't garner rights and while we'd probably be fine without doing the second parent adoption, it would be best to do one anyway just in case the court flips or we're out of the country, etc.

Ours will be free though since it's super easy in our state and someone is guiding us through it for free

JAG can help with the paperwork for free. We used JAG where we are stationed and we only paid the adoption fee at the courthouse but through the military you will get that money back. Spa is still highly recommended to protect all parties. The bio mom could have their rights taken away if the adoption is not done. You do not need to do it to have the baby enrolled in DEERS or to have them on the paperwork for the military but if you get stationed somewhere where LGBT rights are lacking, there is a lot that is being risk if something happened to the bio mom. My wife is the non bio mom, on the birth certificate, and we still did the SPA. People will say they didn't do it or don't feel the need to do it but legally it protect your family and is a fairly easy process

Why are they advising to do so if you're both on the Bc? My wife is on our son's. It's no different if straight people are on a birth certificate

I am on my daughters birth certificate and had her added to my DEERS with no problem and I did not birth her or do a second parent adoption.
