Episiotomy or tear naturally?

I know this is a tmi question but moms, did you decide to get an episiotomy or tear naturally for the vaginal birth of you baby? And why? What was your experience in your opinion?

The tear heals faster and better than the cut which is why ACOG generally recommends against episiotomies. It heals better because it tears along the weakest point so it isn't a straight line and it can heal together better. You can look it up but they aren't recommended anymore.

That's interesting, I've heard the opposite of some of these ladies that getting the cut is like cutting a piece of cloth which makes it easier to tear further. I'd check for studies rather than go by one off experiences people have had!

It's much less common these days (compared to 20-30 years ago) to have an episodimy). Much more common to let you tear naturally. Heals faster.

I asked my doctor to cut me and he refused, and I ended up with a 3rd degree tear. Terrible. Go for getting cut!

I haven't had my son yet, however, my mother told me the healing process is a bit longer if you tear as opposed to having the clean cut from the episiotomy.

I had an episiotomy and didn't know until after Bub had been born, I'd had cuddles and he was taken to be cleaned and weighed. My BF is like "nurse said he's just stitching you up then we can go down to the room."
I'm like stitching what? Lol derrrr

I had an episiotomy and a 4th degree tear-
It was pretty bad and he didn't even ask me if he wanted him to cut me as I was already at a 4th degree when he cut to prevent anything worse from happening

A lot of people don't "decide" the de will just snip the crap out of you if you are begging to tear. 
Seen it doen with my sister in Kentucky and my cousin in Wisconsin
