first word?

My 7 month old has been saying da-da and babbling a lot the past few weeks. I chalked the da da up to just babbling because I thought it was too soon for first words. What do you think?

If baby is saying Da Da in reference to Dad, then it's a first word. I don't count babble. None of my kids quite talked this early, not that it's not possible. They all babbled baba mama dada etc... But not in reference to the correct people or things. When my son starts calling for Daddy by saying Dada, it will be a first word. Dada has been first for all of my boys.

My daughter can say kit-ty! Even in context :) I swear she says thank you too but not fully convinced.

My daughter has been saying momma clear as can be since 6 months. Refuses to say dad's so it bums him out. But she's said baba book and kiwi also.... but confidently says momma like a broken parrot lol 😍

My son started saying da da around 5.5 months. I was pretty disappointed. I'm still drilling ma ma into his had and hr laughs at me. Or yells aahhhkk

My son says "hey" all the time usually when he sees something he likes like the cats or a certain toy or book, but sometimes he says it right when I go in to get him for a nap or if I'm looking away he'll say it and I'll turn to see him looking at my face. I'm not gonna count it as a first word though, as it doesn't really have a definitive meaning etc

Most likely first word. My daughter is 7 months and says "mama" and "hey" all the time. She first said "mama" at 5 months. She also imitates sounds. My older daughter said "dada" at 6 months. Congratulations on her first word!
