Bumper?

How important is the bumper on a crib set? It seems like most sets don't even come with the bumper anymore.. You have to buy it separately. I like them because they're cute, but are they actually safer?

No, I think doctors actually recommend against them now because baby can roll over and suffocate if their face gets pressed up against it.

Yeah, as the other user said, they are no longer recommended due to risk of death. Mesh ones are a lot safer, but safest is to just go without.

They increase the risk of SIDS quite a bit, so they're not recommended. I know people use them for older babies, though. Still too much of a risk in my opinion.

They are a SIDS risk and that's why,they aren't used that often anymore. Sure they are cute but if baby gets their little face pressed against it they can suffocate.

I used a bumper with my first and it was fine but really the only reason I liked it was for looks and to keep her pacifier from falling out of the crib. This was before bumpers were deemed a SIDS risk. With my 2nd we decided to not use a bumper and it was totally fine! He never got limbs stuck between the slats or anything. I won't be using one for this 3rd baby either. Not worth the risk or money, in my opinion.

I have the mesh one so no arms and legs can get stuck, but if she rolls up to it she can breathe through it. I've tested it myself 🙈
