screwed at age 26? Is there no hope?

I am 26 and have never gone to college. I have been working retail for 8 years and have never done anything else and have constantly stayed at minimum wage. I feel like all the careers I wanted to do I should have started right out of high school. Am I too old to get a good career in something and make good money? I've even thought of suicide (which I know is not the answer) because I'm so scared I waited to long and I won't be happy ever or make good money to have a good life.

My mom went to night school with 2 kids and pregnant with her third at the age of 32.

There's always time to improve yourself. It seems long or pointless now, but if you do it, then in 20 more years you won't regret it. You're going to live longer than you feel and college will only be a fraction of your life for most careers.  Unless you want a master's degree, but even that won't last forever. Say to yourself "Ok. Do I want to be comfortable at 40+ or still making minimum?". Do this for yourself.

Your never to old to make a change!!  There are so many things you can do you just need to decide what path you want to take. Once you make that decision then you can work toward your goal.

Nooooo absolutely not!!! I dropped out of uni and for the last few years have jumped from one job to another. I went through a phase of hoplessness too and felt like I was stuck. But things turn around, you just have to want them too. If you want to earn more money or do something different, you can. You just have to act on it. Do you have a savings account where you can put some of your wages away every month to save up? You have a lot of retail experience, maybe you can use different parts of of the knowledge to branch out on to something with a bit higher pay and that opens more doors? Do you live alone? If you get on well with your family, would you consider moving in with them to save up a bit of cash? Is there something you enjoy doing that you know you don't need a college education to pursue professionally? Would you consider work and travel? There are loooooads of things you can do that don't require college. You just need to scratch beneath the surface.

I'm almost 38 and back in school to finish my nursing degree. I'm married and have three daughters, 17, 13 & 9. My mother (divorced) finished her bachelor's at 40 and immediately doubled her salary. It's never too late!

Get an office job. If you don't have good computer skills take a class that covers the Microsoft office suite. After that take a more advanced class for excel. Learn quickbooks, a lot of  smaller companies ask for that knowledge. Some cities offer these type of classes through their community courses or ROP (I'm in California, not sure if they have ROP elsewhere). A junior college would also offer these classes. You could also learn them on your own, there are tons of tutorials on YouTube. But if you don't have any experience with them I would recommend an actual class otherwise you won't know where to begin and it could be overwhelming. You can make good money with advanced excel skills.

Look in to schooling for what you really want to do in life.  Until you can attend school ask for a raise. Why are you settling for minimum wage when you have 8 years of experience?!! Most of the time when people say they don't make enough its because they don't bother to ask for what they are worth. Not only would I be asking for what I'm worth after 8 years I would definitely be in management. Hell after a year at my last job I was in management. I started working my way up after 3 months of being there.
