Pain relief after delivery?

Hey ladies, FTM here- I have a couple questions about pain relief after having the baby. 
When you deliver vaginally, do the doctors typically prescribe you pain killers for the first week or so after? Especially if you tear or need to be cut?

And if you end up needing a C-section, do they prescribe pain killers until your incision heals a bit?

Also, can taking the pain killers be bad for your baby if you are breast feeding??

I'm just trying to plan out my recovery as best as I can! Thanks ladies!

If you have an episiotomy (cut) I would recommend you don't leave the hospital without a very good painkiller. 
They won't prescribe anything that will interfere with breast feeding.

I was prescribed Percocet and 600mg Motrin. I fillled the Motrin and took it for the first week or so but didn't take the Percocet . The Motrin was enough for me. I had a first degree tear.

I had an episiotomy. They prescribed me pain killers. I only took them the first day. The second day when my doctor came over I told her I don't feel I need them so she changed my script to as needed instead of regular. I was sore but not really in pain. Sitz baths and sitting on a hemorrhoid pillow helped.

I was given a prescription for naproxen and for perkoset. I took the naproxen for about 2 weeks. I never got the perkoset filled.

You're not usually prescribed anything unless you request it.

They always give me Vicodin but never take them since I've never felt lots of pain.

I tore bad but had no pain meds. My dr kept asking if I needed something and I said no. I really didn't have any after pain aside from being sore. Talk to your dr. They are usually pretty happy to prescribe stuff!

They offered pain meds to me since I had a second degree tear. Motrin or Percocet but in opted for Motrin and surprisingly only needed it for a couple days!
