Private Room?!

Question

My wife and I are interested in getting a private room for the both of our baby boy. Does anybody know what the cost might be? I know insurance doesn't cover it, but am estimate would be very helpful!

My wife and I are NYC based, so wet expect our cost to be much higher than average. 😖

It will vary from one hospital to the next. Mine, for example, ONLY has private rooms.

Your best bet is to call the hospital or check their website and find out.

A lot of hospitals only have private rooms. In fact, both hospitals I've had/as planning to have a baby in only have private rooms.

The hospital im.delivering at has private rooms on a first come first serve basis and they're $200 a night. From what I understand, insurance will not cover this.

private rooms in ny depend on the hospital. columbia presbyterian private rooms are free but are 1st come 1st serve, no guarantee & are TINYYYYYYY as can be. mount sinai has BEAUTIFUL and spacious private rooms for 900 a night. really have to just check with your hospital

I'm in Toronto so my hospital charges $480/night for a private room. My insurance covers a semi-private (2 women/room) so we would be paying the difference. The bad part is that there is no way to guarantee a private (they may be all occupied by the time I go into labour) so I may be stuck in a semi. The ONLY reason why I'm not going to a place where I'll have one for sure is that I'm high risk and mine has the best NICU in the city right upstairs should anything go wrong.

I've never heard of a hospital not having a private room . Maybe you can request one.

I'm in NY as well and the hospital where I had my son charged $250 per night for a private room. I had a c-section so I was there 4 nights - i.e. $1,000! But once our insurance processed all our hospital expenses we did get a refund for like $600 or $700. Our insurance covered the amount that we would have been charged for a regular room, which of course is not free either. I'm excited though because we have since moved to another neighborhood and switched OBGYNs. The practice I go to now is based out of a hospital with only private rooms, so no extra cost.

I'm so glad I live in a small town and i delivered in a small hospital. My room was private by default 
I say call your hospital and ask...they can give you exact numbers. You will probably have to reserve the room too
