step dad?

I'm currently with the man I'm going to marry. I have an almost 2 year old son, who's dad is not involved at all, hasn't been ever.

We both know he's going to be my sons only dad.

I'm not sure at what point it's appropriate for my son to call him dad? Or how any of that works?

Anyone been through this?

Ask him if he is comfortable with your son calling him daddy. If he is then go ahead.

If your son wants to call him dad then he will do so on his own if not then he won't you shouldn't force or teach a child to call someone dad/mom let them do it on. Their own

I went through something like this. I never knew my biological father as a child and called my stepfather dad. Unfortunately after he and my mom divorced, he stopped contact with me. But it will come naturally to your son. Never force him to call anyone dad. One day he'll say it and that's that

Well first it should make sure your son wants to call him dad. Don't force him to because you'll hurt him and make him feel as if his dad isn't as important as the step dad. If your son is comfortable than make sure the step dad is. Also take into consideration how his biological dad would feel if he heard him calling another man dad. My parents got divorced when I was 2 and my mom got remarried when I was 13 and I call her husband by his first name only. Not because I don't respect him or like him but he's not my dad and never will be.  He's a good guy but not my dad or a father figure. I live with him and my mom and visit my dad every once ina while but talk everyday since we are very close and I know my dad would be crushed if I called my moms husband dad. Just take everyone's feelings into consideration and just let everyone do what they are comfortable with. Don't let his step dad take it personally if he doesn't call him dad he might just feel like your new husband is being introduce to your family.

Let the child make that decision. My sons bio dad isn't in his life and he's 3 and extremely smart for his age I might add. He calls my husband(his step dad) either by "Charlie" or "step daddy". We have never pressured him into calling my husband anything. He just recently started calling him step daddy and he made that choice all on his own.
