Unnecessary comments

So, my boyfriend and I have a hermit crab and we alternate when it comes to looking after the little guy! I wasn't able to see him for a week (due to personal reasons), but it was his week to take care of the hermit crab so I had to bring him to school.
Now pets bringing brought to school is sort of common.. But only smaller animals, like a kitten, a rat, a turtle, and even birds!
I wouldn't necessarily say they're against the rules, but the school doesn't care. So when I brought the hermit crab to school, I was getting stared at by everyone.
That part, I can understand why people would be so curious to see what's in the cage, I can't blame them for that! But a couple people would actually come up to me and YELL (yes they would actually yell) "WHAT'S THAT?"
After telling a guy, he started yelling these things at me like "KILL IT" "YOU SHOULD KILL IT AND EAT IT" "I'D KILL IT" and it pissed me tf off so much.
Were they jokes? Probably, I guess. But I think it's so unnecessary to tell someone that they'd kill their pet, and then tell ME I should kill my pet? And later today I saw him yell at some guy I knew who had to take a sugar glider home (it was the schools animal, but they asked him to take care of it), and the dude kept yelling at him things like "WHY IS A FUCKING RAT ON YOU?" "YOU SHOULD SKIN IT" "I'M GONNA KILL IT IF IT GETS CLOSE TO ME"
Maybe I'm just overreacting and care about animals way too much, but has this ever happened to anyone? Where they talk about killing your pets? This isn't the first time it's happened to me. I was walking my yorkie and she was on a leash and this guy who was on the OTHER side of the street yelled "I'm gonna fucking kick your dog to death if that bitch gets close to me"
