So my baby is exclusively breastfed. She is now 9 weeks old. I introduced a bottle at 4 weeks. She will take it but after crying and fussing and then will only drink 1-2 ounces and other times she will down 5 ounces. This makes me nervous because im going to be returning to work soon and its from 7am to 1:30pm so that is about two feedings sometimes 3 depending on her naps. My question is will she starve herself? Or will she end up taking the bottle caz she had to. I don't want her losing weight then getting stupid advice from people to supplement with formula (you know how people can be)

She may take a bottle better from someone else. Bc she knows you are there and can bf her she refuses anything else. I watch my friends son and he was that way. If he heard or seen her he wouldn't take a bottle but when it was just us he'd eat like a champ

Well if she's refusing the bottle then she will also refuse the formula. And you can always top up with your own milk. It's very common for baby to refuse a bottle. My first baby refused bottles and pacifiers totally. I had surgery and had to pump and dump for a week after and it was a terrible time. She gagged, she vomited, and would only drink 1/2 to 1 oz at a time. She cried a lot but of course she didn't starve. Once I could nurse her again she never took a bottle again and I gave up.

Are you giving her the bottle? Have someone else do it, plus read up on properly paced bottle feeding. Get the slowest nipple and don't tilt it all the way up. You want to mimic the breast which isn't always a flowing fountain. Look at kellymom.com for bottle feeding, they have great advice on positions and paced feeding.

The worse that will happen is she will refuse the bottle while you're away, and then cluster feed while you're home. It's not ideal but I wouldn't worry about it until it becomes a problem (like she starts losing weight). A lot of babies do this when mom is away. She may start waking more at night or being attached to you when you're home. In any case you only have another 3 months of exclusive nursing and after can can add solids. If your baby is into solids it may be enough for her while you're at work.

She may reverse cycle, so she will go from 730-130 without eating, but then want to nurse for the rest of the day. So technically she's not starving herself, but the time you're at work would be like her sleeping at night and then when you pick her up that's when she will want to and start nursing more again.

My LO usually will only eat 1-2.5oz from the bottle when my husband feeds her, once at night.  It's a huge ordeal, she is pissed most of the time,  and takes like 45 minutes. 😂

My pediatrician says it's fine as long as she keeps gaining weight, and that she is just making jet preference known, but she's  breastfed otherwise.

Even though it's a pain for hubs, she needs to keep working on accepting it, just in case I'm not around for the day,  grandparents sitting,  etc.

Baby will not starve. If they are hungry, they will eventually eat from the bottle.
