Is melatonin safe?

Is melatonin safe to use while pregnant?  I just found out I'm pregnant and can't sleep at night the most hours of sleep I get at night is 2-3 hours the rest of the night I just toss and turn

No, it is not recommended during pregnancy. Unisom or Benadryl is safe, however. 
Also, Melatonin supplements should only be taken if you have a defficiency. Our body's naturally make enough Melatonin for healthy sleep cycles & supplementing unnecessarily actually causes increased insomnia as you brain stops producing it for itself.

My doctor told me not to take it.  Basically not enough info about its effects in pregnant women to know if it's safe or not.

When I mentioned trouble sleeping and asked about melatonin, my obgyn recommended Benadryl, so I have used that on occasion. I'm normally all about the melatonin, but might not hurt to just call and see what your doc suggests.

If you have any doubt that it could harm your unborn baby, I'd avoid it at all cost. Try relaxation techniques.  Talk with your Dr of you still have trouble sleeping.

You can take Tylenol PM. I take a half every now and again to help with back ache and to get me to sleep through the night.
