Cartilage piercing

Okay I've had it done TWICE on the right ear. The first time was so painful and sore, also it got infected so I took it out. Ended up with a keloid?? Or basically just a little knot on my ear. Second time was the same thing, pain and infection, I kept forgetting to put a earring in it so it closed over the summer. I really want another one, this time maybe on the left. Tell me EVERYTHING you know about these piercings!! And your experience please😘 healing time? Cleaning process? Thank youuu!
