my FTM induction

Nicole
Due to gestational diabetes I went in at exactly 39 weeks on October 19th to be induced. We checked in at 0830 that morning feeling excited! To my surprise my nurse was new and training so that was a little scary since it started with her having to stick me several times for iv and blood draws. The nurse that was over seeing her was a little blunt....so I was very nervous, little did I know they would later on save me. My doctor came in and explained they were going to use a medicine that takes 4-6 hours to ripen cervix. I was dialated to a 1 at this point. At the end of 6 hours I was only 1.5 dialated. So they then inserted cervidil and would let that sit over night for 12 hours. They also gave me some pain meds to let me rest easy. I was able to just sleep but around 2 in the morning my contractions were about to 2 min apart and I decided to get the epidural which is what I was most nervous about. That went well and before I knew it my legs were dead and I could go back to sleep. 6am things my doctor came in to check me and said I had progressed to about a 6 and they were going to start the pictocin in my IV. Another couple hours I was at a 9 almost 10....so they decided to sit me up for an hour to let baby drop down. Well that only lasted about 30 minutes and I said I feel like I need to push. My doctor came in and my 2 nurses and I started pushing around 11:30. Well at 12 my doctor says she has to go. Ack to the office and this other doctor who I can't stand was taking over. My husband and I were upset. I continued to push with just the nurses and even though my legs were dead I could feel everything and all the contractions. They finally put a squat bar on the bed and gave me a sheet to pull on. That's when my son's head started coming out and they told me to stop they have to get the doctor. She comes in and is like what's going on am I here to assess or deliver. The nurse was like look...she's like well I can't deliver a baby with how this bed is configured. So she took her good ole time while I was screaming and the nurse was holding my son in because I was pushing him out. Finally I'm allowed to push him out. Well since doctor was in hurry she wouldn't let me deliver my placenta she manually took it out. Stiched my tear up and I finally got to hold my baby. As I was there with family holding my baby the nurse asked everybody but my husband to leave and the next thing I know I'm hemorrhaging and there are so many people working on me. My husband was in tears I was getting so weak.  It took a long time to get the bleeding to stop. They were calling for blood units for me. It was the most terrifying experience for me and my husband. I was finally released from the hospital on Saturday and I'm starting to feel better. After everything is said and done I'm so in love with my son, just wish the birth experience wouldn't have been so traumatic. He weighed 8.4lbs and 21 inches long. He was born at 1:17pm October 20th. I never knew I could be so in love!!💙💙💙
