need advice asap

Well anyways ive been dating a guy for 1 year and 1 month and he hasn't bought things for me but when he does you doesn't do it because he wants to , i have to like beg him ( only buys me small things like drinks or chips) and he has a job but he says his mom takes away his money so pretty much that doesn't leave us anything to do . And so i told my mom about this situation and shes like well he isn't ready for a relationship then because why date if you can't go on dates or him getting you something out of his own heart and i was like well thats true . And i don't want to tell him anything because i feel like his going to think i want him for money which i don't i met him away before he even had a job.
