random dog question

Not really relevant to the app, but I figured someone on here might have some insight. I just noticed my 1 year old dog has what I think is hyperkeratosis. I am going to call the vet in the morning but am really concerned, and would like to hear about any of your stories if you have experience with it. His poor little feet look almost hairy or like he has all these tiny feathers poking out of them. His paws used to be so soft and for the last few months they've felt like sandpaper but I never noticed the weird hairiness before. Any advice is appreciated.
