Homeless man 😢

At work there has been this man that I have seen a few times and he would always say good afternoon and would try and make conversation but I would always be in a rush and say hello and walk away. Well today was different he came in used the restroom and approached me to say good afternoon. Today in a very long time I took the time to listen to him. He's a homeless alcoholic man who's family had kicked him out to the street and he was constantly assaulted by other homeless. I listened to how he used to have a job, a family, played sports etc. And today all he had was his bottle of alcohol. I felt so bad because my dad is an alcoholic and we struggled with his drinking for a very long time but we never turned our back on him. I suggested for him to get help and he said he has tried but didn't know how. After talking we went our ways and told him to take care of himself to stop drinking and get help. A few hours later staff calls me to call PD because a man had gotten stabbed. Well it was the same homeless man, with tears in his eyes told me "see what I tell you, I need to get out of this life, thank you for your kind words" 😢 I've been so emotional since then I feel so bad for him. Lesson here is don't judge people just because you see them on the streets or because there homeless. Every person has a story and like myself should take a minute to listen because at the end of the day that's all they want, someone to listen!
