hosting your own baby shower?

Is it weird to host your own? Ive had a few friends offer to throw me one, and I'm definitely not opposed, but I don't want to put that on someone else, to plan this for me. I like planning stuff like this anyway. But i just realized, are you not supposed to throw your own? Is it supposed to be something someone does for you? Otherwise it feels like I'm just trying to get gifts?

I say it's 2016. You do whatever You want and feel is best to celebrate Your Baby and Your Pregnancy. Don't let the pressures of etiquette from yesteryear rain on your parade. My mom is throwing mine and is allowing me to plan it very closely with her.

All of these outdated ideas on "etiquette" on what you "should" do, or how you'll look to other people... it must be exhausting following the rules of some unknown person whose, somehow made all of these women so obsessed with what others think. It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. If someone has a problem with you throwing your own shower to celebrate, not you, but your BABY, then they can sit at home and be so offended thinking you're begging for presents. Throw your shower, and accept the love and gifts your loved ones will gladly shower you with! 
Be careful, though- If too many women throw their own showers, the world may erupt into total chaos.

Let someone else host. I think etiquette is super important in this case. People say, who cares, it's 2016, celebrate your baby. You can celebrate your baby in a way that doesn't involve basically asking for gifts, which is what a shower is for.

Do whatever you want. If people think it's rude or begging for gifts, then they just won't come.

I'm throwing my own. I live 2000 miles away from family and I've only lived in this city for a year so it would be strange to expect someone to throw it for me. I've lived in 5 different cities in the last 10 years so all of my friends are in a ton of different places (my husband was in the military). It's not about gifts it's about celebrating my baby, and if people don't want to do that then that's on them. I'm gonna enjoy myself.

I hosted my own, but that's because everyone wanted to come and no one offered to host it. In my opinion it was less rude for me to host my own shower than it would have been for me to ask someone to throw me a party. But I wouldn't recommend it. We spent months planning it and it ended up causing a lot of stresss. If you have people offering, I would take them up on it and just help them plan

If people have offered, then let them. I personally think it's quite odd that people would throw their own shower (and I have never even heard of a person throwing their own shower until I started using this ap). A shower is supposed to be a gift to a mother and a celebration from a community of friends and family. When someone throws it for themselves it takes away the specialness and no longer has the same feeling. It comes off more to me as "hey come celebrate me and bring me presents!" Or that they are really controlling. If someone offers to throw you a shower, trust that they are ok with it or they wouldn't have offered in the first place.

I know that some people host their own, but I wouldn't. If someone is offering to throw one for you, take them up on it. I had a few of them (one for friends, one more my husband's family, and one for mine). It was nice to be able to kick back and be surprised at all they had planned, and it was nice to see other people get excited to celebrate the little one. I personally feel like hosting your own might seem like asking for gifts. Maybe you can just offer to pitch in and help someone else plan it? Congrats on your baby!

Typically, if you follow tradition someone else would try, because since its for gifts hosting yourself just looks like you are asking for gifts. That said, these days a lot of people no longer follow tradition and host their own....

I never would host my own, I'd be too uncomfortable to do so as people might see it as begging for gifts when I am (and have) more than capable of providing  my baby everything she needs. We're opting for a diaper party/sip and see as I've already bought all her necessities.
