It depends on how much you trust your so, I plan on cancelling my bank account as soon as we both have our loans paid off and combining finances but I also trust him more than anyone in my life and he's going to be making the bulk of the money anyway.

I'm sure people have more than one account. I think you should have at least one shared account. After all, you wouldn't be married to them if you didn't trust them right? At least in the beginning when making these decisions.

I actually read an article that was things couples should know before moving in together. The one I really liked was creating a joint account that both people contribute a set amount to each month or each pay cycle and you use that account for bills and stuff like that. That way there's no argument over who's paying bills that month!

My mom has always had separate accounts. It's not that they don't trust the other it's just that they were so used to paying shit on their own and doing their own thing that they worked the financial stuff out better separately. They each paid for certain bills and they had a cash box for when they would go grocery shopping or out to dinner. I would want separate, I mean if I find some hella expensive jacket or something and I want to splurge then it's going to be with my money not my husbands.

My husband and I have joint accounts. I actually moved my direct deposit to his account before we were even married because my bank was garbage. I've always trusted him so I never had a worry about having joint accounts. Sometimes he wants to just spend all of the money before all of the bills are paid but we have an understanding that I am in charge of bills and what can and can't be spent so he will ask to spend before he uses any of the money. I think it's about trust and clear communication. If you can communicate about finances without arguing and stressing then joint accounts are not a bad thing. At least that's how it works so well with my husband and me.

I might be okay with having both. But I am a very paranoid person so there is no way I'm having someone else have access to all of my money. Even though I don't really plan on getting married, I don't think I could ever trust someone enough to have access to that, especially since they might have malicious motives.

We have 2 different accounts but we both have access to both of them.

We use his most of the time since he makes far more money, and mine is for fun stuff or just if we need extra for something.
