Do you bed share?

Question

I was not planning to but LO is four days old and spent every night in my bed. I do have a co sleeper and a crib but she sleeps with me on my bed. If I put her down she will wake and cry. Plus, I am able to feed her quickly and without waking her too much because she doesn't need to cry when she's hungry- I wake up feeling her stretch out.

But I've been looking it up and most articles say bed sharing is extremely unsafe. What is your opinion?

I did with my daughter however she slept in the cosleeper in the bed. A couple or reasons why it's unsafe is because mom/dad may be extremely tired one night and roll over and suffocate the baby by accident, and the increased risk of baby falling off the bed.

Be careful if you do, I would buy a thing to put in your bed so you won't roll over on baby if I were you. My husband is a firefighter-paramedic. He doesn't really ever "put his foot down," but that's one thing he said he will not allow. He's been on several runs where one of the parents has rolled over onto baby. By the time they noticed, it's too late. But if you have something like the dock-a-tot or something like that, you wouldn't be able to roll onto baby.

It is unsafe and not recommended. Look into getting a side sleeper or a bassinet next to your bed.

We coslept from day one. It was fine but a negative is that they don't leave. 😩 we're at 2.5 yrs and bedtime is when we all go to bed.

It may be easier, but I'm not sure if I would. I bought a crib for my little guy and I'm getting a sleeper for our room. From what I know, co-sleeping puts baby at a bigger risk for SIDS. I'm hoping that I can keep up with it when he gets here because I know I'll be super tired, but I don't plan on co-sleeping. I slept in my crib once I was born so hopefully he's as independent.

Look up the recommendations. If you do it according to the recommendations it's not very dangerous (and it's MUCH safer than falling asleep in the chair or on the couch with baby).

It can be done safely. Minimal pillows light blanket. Make sure adults in the bed are sober (not pass out drunk). I did it with my 4 older kids and will again with #5. With breast feeding it's the only way I get any decent sleep. Do what feels right for your family.

Hey! If you're looking for a safer way,  they have little things you can put in bed with you. There is the dock a tot but that is expensive. They sell cheaper ones at target. It can just go in the bed and your baby can sleep on that and be fine

I'm a first time mom, and my other half purchased me a maternity pillow, that's the shape of a U; it takes up about a twin mattress. You lay in the middle of the U, and it then makes it nearly impossible to roll over without waking up. I would recommend getting one of these, so if you continue to bed share, then this will give you peace of mind 😌. Also, what's nice, is if you're with someone else, is they can use the other half the pillow!! Win, win, safe baby, super win!!
