Do I expect too much???

About 4 years ago, we were together for 5 years. We broke up because he chose drugs over family and we had no contact for those 4 years. We got back together in april. We plan on getting a house and getting married. I had a miscarriage at the beginning of october. I love him very very much, but I feel that he isn't attentive enough. It's almost like I want him to constantly remind me of how much he loves me, but not just saying it in a text. Do I expect too much? What can I say to him?
