Is it really so bad to have a common name?

I'm in love with the name Olivia for my little girl, but I heard it's supposed to be #1 for most common names in 2017. I personally don't know anyone by that name...even though I get it's a different generation. What are your opinions/personal experiences??

I honestly have never understood why so many people always say that "omg so common omg don't use that name everyone is using it ect". If it's a nice name and you love it who gives a shit.

Ashley was the number 2 most popular name the year I was born (1988).  I hated it in school because there was always at least 4 Ashleys in my class.  I don't mind it now that I'm 28.

I grew up Emily. It has been on the top names list for like 30 years. I like my name and never minded being Emily R. Also, having the same name always gave me an instant friendship connection with the other Emilys

No its not awful. It's just personal prefrence. As someone with a common name it's sometimes a pain in the butt... but that's okay. Because if my biggest problem is that I'm in a class with 3 other Alex... then I've got it pretty good

Definitely don't know a lot of Olivia's. But a name is a name, doesn't matter if it's super common or unique. Name your baby what you want

I'm naming my daughter Isabella which is a pretty popular name or at least it was in the past few years. I worried about the same thing and then i stopped caring but this is the perfect name for her and she'll be unique in other ways other than her name.

I hate my name. I was born in 1989 & my parents named me Ashley. I cringe every time someone says it. But it's not that the name is common. It's that I genuinely dislike the name. Plus my so ex wife's name is Ashley. It's...frustrating.

It's my daughter's name.  I didn't realize it was so popular until after she was born.  But it fits her and she has a huge personality to go with it. She'll be 4 this month
