Induction of labour?

Question

For those ladies who have experienced both naturally going into labour and induction of labour, was induction of labour more painful? Did you spend longer in hospital? And does anyone know if you can still have a water birth if your induced? Thanks for any advice.

Hello. I experienced both natural(with my first) and induction this past weekend: I labored shorter with the induction and it was less painful because I only had contractions for about an hour before he was born with my daughter (my first) I had contractions for about 3 hours painful ones! I didn't have a chance to get an epidural for either one of my births! Delivered both natural! (I had the balloon inserted for my induction with no meds)

I have not gone into labor spontaneously but I have been induced. First I had the balloon that was in for four hours when I got to 4 cm dilated then with Pitocin got to 10 cm dilated the whole process only took 13 hours and I was in active labor for three hours my water broke spontaneously I labored and pushed without pain medication and only had to push for 10 minutes before she was out. Not gonna lie it was definitely intense! Hoping to do spontaneous labor with the next baby.  I was not allowed to get in the shower because of the IV and I didn't want to get in the pool so I don't know if they would let me do that or not. When you're induced they want to do continuous fetal monitoring so I'd be surprised if they let you be in the pool

My water broke but my contractions did not progress so I was given pitocin to induce labor. I had a lot of back labor and it was definitely painful, but I was still able to achieve my natural birth. One thing I made sure they did was work to get the pitocin off as my body took over naturally. Natural labor was so much better than pitocin labor. Or maybe it was just in my head haha

I really can't/shouldn't comment because I was a FTM so I only have my induction, no natural labor to compare it to, so I can't say which would have been worse for me. But all I'd say is I'm sure every body is different. I'd been so upset and scared about being induced because I heard the pitocin made the contractions so quick and painful, and increased the chance of c-section. But when I was actually induced, I didn't have that experience at all.

They kept increasing my pitocin every 30 mins for HOURS and I was still not even feeling my contractions even though the monitor showed I was having them. 7 hours after being induced with the pitocin, I still felt literally nothing, so they broke my water and that finally started the "fun" part. And sure it hurt but it was still tolerable for a while (I eventually opted for an epidural but I knew going in that this was my plan lol, I'm a wuss). Like I said, I can't compare to natural labor, but for me nothing was extreme or unbearable like I'd been warned.

Oh, and I'd been warned about labor being longer. From the time I was induced, I had 7 hours of nothing, then 8 hours from the time my water broke to my baby's birth. And never any reason to consider a c-section. Even though my baby was born at 9 lbs 13 oz, which is probably why I needed to be induced because my big boy wasn't coming out willingly lol.

Long story short: you'll hear bad things and good things, but everyone is different so don't stress yourself out too much either way!

I have done both and I wouldn't say one was more painful than the other, they were all painful and I got the epidural lol. All of my labors and deliveries were within a few hours of each other and with all of them I went home in 24 hours or less, except with my 3rd we stayed an extra 24 hours but that's because she was jaundice, nothing to do with labor or delivery. I have never used a tub but my sister has used the shower, she never had a room with the tub, and she was induced with all 6 of hers.

For me personally being induced was worse then natural labour. It wasn't too bad at the beginning its when they up the pitocin it gets horrible because the cramps become far more intense imediately not gradually like natural labour did. I would prefer natural labour if honest out the two

I was induced with my first and I had a natural birth with my second. I have to see induction was worse for me and very painful. My water broke and I had no contractions for the first six hours so the doctor decided to induce me. I couldn't handle the painful contractions and I had to get an epidural. With my second it was the perfect labour. It was a lot easier and I was able to handle the contractions and I went med free.
