Going to see someone postpartum

I went to see my sister today, after she had her second child, and second c-section. Immediately, when I walked in, everyone was hovered over the baby and asking the father how the baby was, how much she's been crying and so on. Now, I understand, you're going to see the baby. BUT, can't you at least ask the mother how she's doing, if she needs anything, if she wants anything, if you need to leave so she can rest, etc.
I don't know. I noticed the first time and now I'm seeing it again for round two.
I'm there to see my niece, and my sister, and my brother in law. Not just my niece.
Just really erks me when people forget the mothers body just went through a trauma, and they act like she's not there.
