How do you apply cream rash on baby?

It might be a silly question but im a ftm mom and I bought a&d ointment for my baby girl, shes 3 weeks old and has had no rashes so far but should I be applying the ointment? If so where do I apply it? Around her inner thighs?

I've only ever used ointment when a baby has a rash, start applying it at the first sign.

We only use creams if our son has a rash and we put it where the rash is. We started out using it every diaper change but he got diaper rashes anyway since his skin is ridiculously sensitive so we figure why waste it and just use it when he needs it which is a couple days every other month or so.

On the area that is covered by the diaper. Anywhere else I'll use calendula cream. I also use sudocream so it's really thick and sticky and makes a good nice paste that barely comes off the next diaper change which I like because then I know it's making a barrier.
