Question for moms who breastfeed in public?
I want to share this specific situation, so if you don't want to read this long winded post, I understand!
I am a FTM, 19 weeks currently, and I am absolutely dedicated to breastfeeding. I am planning to breastfeed in public, and I'm not even registering for a cover. I don't believe there is anything wrong with breastfeeding or breasts in general and I don't think my baby should have to eat with a blanket over his head to make other people comfortable. I have had several close friends breastfeed this way and I'm kind of familiar with techniques for being quick and descreet, etc., but I am kind of worried about my husbands family. My MIL is very happy I am breastfeeding, I wouldn't say she's very educated on the subject but she is supportive, and I know her well enough to say "screw you, it's a nipple and your grandson is hungry" even though she has expressed that she thinks it's inappropriate to not use a cover. But his grandparents are very upright and religious, very judgemental, etc, so I am nervous about how to navigate breastfeeding with them around. In my own home, I'm completely comfortable, it's my living room and my breast so you can do whatever you need to to be comfortable. But we go to their house often for family gatherings, and I am curious how anyone else has handled this situation? I am mostly trying to find out would that be considered rude to breastfeed in their living room without a cover and hold my ground if they said they weren't okay with that? If they approach me to tell me to move to the bathroom or bedroom, in your experience, should I just accommodate them because it's only a day or two each month, or should I say that I don't want to?
I know that once you actually have the baby and are breastfeeding regularly, you understand those social dynamics better, but it is making me anxious and I am trying to see if anyone has any input. Thanks ladies!
