Is there really two types of epidurals ?

So someone told me there is two types of epidural ? Ive only ever heard of one which is the one that goes into your spinal cord. Anywho, someone told me they could stick that medication into your IV. Is this true ? I've never had a baby so I have no idea.

My epidural was in my back but they put an iv in it and if my epidural wore off of whatever I could hit a button and it would pump more into me

That's not an epidural, that's just a different format of pain management, but the epidural is what goes into your back.

Now, they do have the full dose, and a "walking epidural" which is just a low dose. Some people prefer that so they can still feel their legs generally but are still pretty numb. But IV meds aren't the same as an epidural

I wanted to go as naturally as possible, but the pain became too much. I had 2mg of stadol, not sure of sp. It just took the edge off and helped me relax. This went into my iv.

They both go in the spine, one totally numbs so I don't feel contractions and can't really tell ur pushing when told to push, the other is a partial block, takes away the pain but you still feel contractions and can tell ur pushing....

I'm not sure. I choose to deliver naturally, as I feel there is no need to pump that stuff into me and my baby .
