How long can you last at a job you hate?

I've been at my job about 5 years and that last year I realized that I hate it. I'm currently looking for something else and I'm willing to take a paycut. This place makes me hate my life seriously. I'm just venting here and looking for some tips on staying until I find something else.

I was literally in the same place. I worked in the ER for 5 years and I LOVED it... until the last 6 months or so... We lost sooo many good staff members because of one condescending and vindictive team lead. I couldn't take it anymore. It was such a toxic environment. I started looking elsewhere and found out I was pregnant. I was honestly considering taking a pay cut as well if I had too, to get out away from the negativity! I got lucky and found a better job and they don't care that I'm pregnant. Life has a way of working out if you put yourself out there. It sucks that I won't be eligible for fmla, but that's ok. I hope you find a job that makes you happy! Life is too short to be miserable in a place you spend so much of your time!

I'm in the same boat! I have a terrible boss who takes out his anger and anxiety on his employees. I've been just praying at my desk and constantly applying for jobs. My pay is not bad right now so I just try and stay positive and grateful that I have a job until I find something better. Thinking positive is key, you can do it!

I was so miserable at my last position I just quit. I gave my two weeks with nothing else lined up. Of course, I was able to by relying on my savings. A week later I got a new, higher paying job. Sometimes you just have to take a chance :)

Same. I hate my job so much I've been there for a little over a year. I was going to quit in February to go to school for something I'd love but I can only go full time. And my second weekend job probably would of been okay with paying some of my bills. But I found out I'm pregnant so I'm probably stuck there for at least another year. I still have to figure it out.

Girl im in the same boat. I'd rather jump off a cliff than go into ny job. I walk in st 5:45am and instantly hear screaming and that goes on until i get off at 2 pm😣😣😣😣😣😢

You have to look at the bright side of things. Keep yourself positive. What that means is instead of saying how much you hate your job, since that thought can keep you in a negative mind space, you need to change that up and think about all the reasons you're grateful for having the job at the moment. For instance, you're not unemployed, you are getting money, you're good at what you do, you're a valuable employee, you're learning what you really want to be doing, etc. What I mean when I say you're learning what you really want to be doing, is that you're learning that you don't want to be doing this, so it's motivating you to do something different.  You've learned something about yourself by having this job. Keeping yourself positive is really the only way to get through it. Good luck to you and your job search!
