when did you test and get a positive?

I am unsure of when my last period is. Hey are generally irregular and there were some birth control pills on and off for the last couple of months. I haven't taken birth control for at least 40 days and had unprotected sex last on Nov 5. I'm generally fertile and don't have challenges conceiving however I also don't keep up with ovulation and such and am unsure. Just wondering if I can accurately test now or soon?
