Is this clot normal?

So I just started my period a little early this month (exactly a month since my last period but I average about 34 days. Projected date was the 21st) and I got this weird clot. I can't show you a picture bc it was already in the toilet when I saw it, but the outer lining was red, but most of it was a grey/brown color. It's never happened before. Is that bad? What does that mean? It was also about the size of a nickel.
