New Covenant says it's not necessary if you're talking about the Christian viewpoint. That's more of a Jewish belief.

Christians were freed from the Law, including circumcision (Acts 15:1-20). It was described as an almost unbearable yoke on the neck (Acts 15: 10). The yoke, of course, was a sign of slavery and Christians were told not to become entangled with 'a yoke of bondage' (Galatians 5:1-2).

Paul condemned Jewish Christians who claimed new converts must be circumcised, as circumcision was part of the old covenant where men were bound by the Law for salvation. Christ's death fulfilled the Law, meaning we are saved only by faith in His atonement and not by works (i.e. circumcision). Jews promoting circumcision were basically saying you could not be saved without it and promoting works over faith, nullifying the blood sacrifice of Christ. I am Christian and neither of my sons are circumcised.
